[Point in time taken from canon] Moment before dying (Does this work with the whole ”dream self” thing? Now I have him passing out right before his moment of death, but I will just correct this if it doesn't work with the concept.)

[Background]
(The only wiki link I found was on Fai D Flourite's (Yuui's) background, and I felt it was incomplete.)

Fai was born a twin in Valeria, a country where twins were believed to be cursed. And not only that, he and his twin, Yuui (Fai D Flourite later), were the sons of the Emperor’s younger brother, and that meant that the misfortune they would bring would affect the entire country. Moreover – and possibly more importantly – they have incredibly strong magic, which already threatens to be greater than that of the Emperor.

The twins’ father dies of an illness not very long after their birth and disaster after disaster starts striking Valeria. Soon after this, their mother commits suicide in shame and regret over having borne twin princes into the world. The Emperor then calls the twins to him (the timeframe for all of this is unspecified, but they look as if they’re about three or so when this happens) and gives them an ultimatum. Either they will agree to that one of them will be killed, or they accept the punishment for the sin of being alive, that he claims will purge the country of evil. Both silently refuse to allow their brother to die, and so they are taken to the place where they will be punished.

It is a place which nullifies magic power, and in which time flows differently from outside, allowing the both of them to be completely isolated from the world and making sure they won’t use their magic to get free. Since “all happiness must be taken from [the twins] for happiness to return to Valeria”, they are then separated. Fai is put into a cell in a tall tower, and Yuui is placed in the pit below it. This pit is also where those who are deemed sinners in Valeria are dumped, meaning that there is a constant inflow of corpses, and that Yuui has no choice but to live on the piled bodies of dead people. Neither of them is given food or water, or anything to keep them warm in the wintery climate, because their magic is so strong that it will keep them alive regardless. They can only communicate with each other by shouting.

Fai, trapped in his tower, can do nothing else but to pull himself up via the bars of his one window and try to look down at his twin. Yuui, meanwhile, starts trying to tries to climb the sheer wall of the tower and, failing that, pile bodies to build himself a way out.

An undetermined amount of time later, bodies start dropping into the pit which clearly don’t belong to sinners (the twins look a lot more starved, and their hair has grown so much it is likely that at least one to two has passed, possibly more, but since time passes differently where they are, no indication is given of how much time has passed outside). Yuui finds a missive which says that the emperor of Valeria has gone mad and is killing his people, and the letter ends by blaming the “cursed twins”. Fai's awareness of this is unclear.

Later still (about one year, again possibly more), however, the Emperor throws himself into the pit. He is still alive when he hits the bottom, and drags himself to his feet, proclaiming that everyone in the country is dead, thanks to the misfortune the twins have brought. He then proceeds to stab himself through the neck right in front of Yuui, saying that their punishment will be that they will be all alone and abandoned forever.

At this point, understandably, Yuui loses his mind completely, screaming and rambling in horror at the idea that just being alive can be such a terrible sin. Fai cries out for him, but being helpless to comfort or help him, eventually gives up and simply cries.

Later still (at this point they are practically mummified, and their hair reaches the ground, so probably at least five years later) a rift in dimensions appears in front of first Yuui, then Fai, and a man on the other side poses the same ultimatum to them both. One of them will get out, if the other one dies. He allows them to choose for themselves. Both ask that their twin be saved, and that they themselves will die. He asks Fai last, and it’s to him that he listens. Fai is thrown from the tower, sacrificing himself for Yuui.

That is where Fai’s story ends, but it should be noted (for the sake of comprehension on what the hell is going on with the names) that the man who gave them the choice, Fei Wang/Wong Reed, then manipulates Yuui’s memories to make him think that he, not Fai, said the words “let Yuui live”, thus making him think that he’s guilty of Fai’s death. When Yuui then is saved, he takes on Fai’s name, vowing that he’ll give it back to him the day he has managed to help Fei Wang Reed fulfill his plans and can bring his twin back to life.

[Personality] Canon: Fai’s personality, compared to his twin’s, makes him appears to be the more stable one – understandably, since he’s not the one having corpses dropped on him daily. While you witness Yuui spiraling more and more into madness, driven there by the destruction of Valeria which he is witnessing via the corpse-count, Fai seems to sink into apathy more than anything else.

And while Yuui seems to get more and more driven, as seen by his thoughts being completely focused on getting them both out of there, Fai seems to be more resigned. His thoughts seem focused solely on the fact that he wants to die, but that he can’t until Yuui has been saved. So Yuui, who has more of a chance to get free – albeit a microscopic one – turns into the more active of the two, while Fai, trapped in his tower, turns into the more passive. But in turn, Fai’s mental state is spared to at least a higher degree than that of his twin, and he doesn’t get guilt and self-loathing ground into him in the same way.

That is probably why Fei Wang Reid makes the decision to allow Yuui to live, and not Fai, since when given the choice of who should survive, they both answer that they want their twin to live. Yuui has already developed a habit of hating and blaming himself that Fai has, to some extent, been spared from, and thus it is easier to manipulate his memories and make him think that he asked for his twin to die and himself to be spared, and to use that guilt against him.

It is hard to detail his personality further than that in canon, specifically because he doesn’t interact with anyone except Yuui and Fei Wang Reed. But what you do see is that he's fanatically devoted to his brother, to the point where giving up his own life for Yuui's is the clearly less painful alternative, and also protective of him in almost an older sibling kind of way – as seen by how when Fei Wang Reed points out that Yuui has wished the exact same thing as him, and asks him why he should listen to Fai instead, he insists that nothing else matters, as long as Yuui is made free. He also apologizes to Yuui before throwing himself from the tower, saying he's sorry they can't go together, clearly aware that his death is going to hurt his twin but nonetheless determined to do it. Being the one to witness his more volatile twin spiral out of control, he has probably developed more of a sense of responsibility rather than guilt, because he's the one who can still think clearly at least to some extent – both a blessing and a curse in this case.

In a game setting: Due to the huge amount of trauma he’s suffered in his short life, Fai is very far from an ordinary child. It is entirely possible he has never smiled even once in his life. By the time he arrives in the game, he will have suffered such severe emotional damage that he won’t know how to even interact with humans. He has never learned, since his interactions with other people in early life have almost exclusively been painful and traumatizing, and later in life he’s had only his twin – who is, if possible, even more damaged – to interact with at a distance.

Physical nearness is something he’s not used to at all, and any attempts at touch or simply someone invading his personal space is going to either scare or confuse him, most likely the former rather than the latter. He’ll also suffer from a rather severe case of agoraphobia.

It will take a lot of careful handling and kindness before he’ll let go of the conviction that everyone else in the entire world except his twin hates him and wants him dead. Even more so before he’ll be able to learn to form proper relationships with people, and more still to get him to trust them.

Also, since his twin is currently in the game, he will attach himself to him and almost exclusively interact with him at first. And anyone trying to take any of Yuui/Fai’s attention runs a risk of becoming an enemy and a threat in his mind. He is used to the two of them relating exclusively to each other, being each others’ entire world, and adapting to a world in which this isn’t the case is going to be very difficult for him. Learning how to deal with the relationships Yuui/Fai has already formed is going to be painful and confusing – learning how to form relationships with someone who isn’t his twin will possibly be even more so.

[Abilities]
Fai has the potential of being extremely magically powerful, but he has no training what so ever and has spent most of his life in an environment where his magic has been nullified and its growth therefore heavily stunted.

[Other important stuff] Fai is the same person as the Horitsuba Yuui – who I noticed was reserved – in that he has the same soul even though they are born in different universes, but their age and radically different stories makes them, to say the least, very different.

[Sample post]
[First Person]

[The feed starts with the Dreamberry being severely manhandled by the sound of it, as something scratches over the mike in an ear-torturing cacophony of sharp edges at the same time as the camera shows blurred snatches of ground. A moment something which might be a couple of feet under all the dirt and scabs are visible.

A voice can be heard behind the audiovisual seizure:]

I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Yuui. I'm sorry.

I wanted to leave with you. I wanted- I'm sorry.

[There are scratchy, dry sounds which might be sobs, and as the Dreamberry falls from hands now suddenly too numb, shaking too much to hold it, the wasted remains of a child becomes visible. Its face is scrunched up, crying without tears, but there is a ghostly and manic smile pulling at its lips.]

You're free now, though. I'm sorry you had to go alone. I wish- I wish-

[And then the child-creature at last seems to start taking in its environments, and the narrow street and damp cobbles are taken in with wonder.]

Is this... Gehenna?

[Third Person]

He remembered falling.

After imeasurable time in the tower, he'd told himself he no longer felt hunger or cold, when the truth was he always felt them. They just faded into the constant background choir of agony, joining one of many voices from his torn-off nails to his mutilated feet and his painfully beating heart. But that one shining, desperate moment when he fell toward the ground far below, all those voices truly were silenced for the first time in years. All that was left was the certainty of death, the inevitable loss which waited for him at the end of his fall.

Two points of impossible sky in a sea of death was Yuui's eyes, watching him from a face frozen in silent disbelief. Fai wished that he'd still have breath in him to cry ”I'm sorry” or ”I love you” or ”We'll be together again”. But there were no words and no time. His eyes closed in that last moment, his conciousness fleeting, and he was glad he'd feel no pain.

And then...

He looked around. This didn't look like he'd imagined Gehenna. It was dark, but no darker than the tower. It was wetter, but that also meant that it wasn't at all as cold. He ran his hand along the wall right next to him, and felt a different kind of stone than what he was used to against his mangled fingertips. Wet.

Water.

Looking around wildly, he found a puddle of it on the ground. It stank, but so did he, and he scooped it up with trembling hands and drank and drank. Only moments later, he was doubling over and retching it back up again, flakes of old dried blood and other substances coming up with it. He didn't care. He repeated the procedure, with the same result, and it was still worth it for the feeling of cold water running down his aching throat.

Whatever kind of place Gehenna turned out to be, it appeared to not be any worse than what he'd left behind. And here he could live with the knowledge that Yuui was free.

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] Because I find it interesting to play out his deveolpement into more of a ”normal” kid, and because there's a cast in Somarium that will hopefully help him do that. He is possibly under 10 years old, but there honestly is nothing Somarium can do to him that is worse than what has already happened to him. Just giving him food and human contact is going to make up for anything.

[Which rule was your favorite and why?] Be nice to other players. Because it's nice when everyone is nice.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] Plurk
